Mold prevention and removal are vital if we are to maintain a healthy indoor environment. The problem is that mold often starts to form before we can see it. One example of this is mold in carpeting. Generally, mold in a carpet only becomes visibly evident in extreme cases. So, what should you do?
If your home has carpet in areas that are more susceptible to mold such as the bathroom, etc. it would be a good idea to periodically check the underside of the carpeting for any signs of mold growth. Carpet padding is another area at risk of mold so check this as well.
Is it easy to remove mold in carpeting? If the mold is only in a small section of the carpet and has just developed, you should be able to take care of it by cleaning it. It is a different story if the mold is covering a large area or has been in a flood and stayed wet for longer than 24 hours. In a case like this, you would likely need to replace the entire carpet. You can never be too safe when it comes to the well-being of yourself and your household so, if you live in a home with a high potential for mold growth, you may want to consider a different type of flooring.
