As many families and friends will be getting together in the next couple of weeks, we thought it would be good to provide you with a few fire safety reminders. While these reminders will seem obvious, we may not have given much thought to them recently. Here they are:
Do you have a fireplace in your home? There is nothing cozier and more inviting than being gathered around a roaring fire. To ensure the fireplace does not become a fire hazard, be sure to check that the flue is open before lighting the fire and remove any items surrounding the fireplace that could easily catch alight.

String lights and candles are used a lot more this time of year, so care should be taken to ensure that they don’t pose a fire risk. For example, check that string lights have no fraying wires or broken bulbs, and never light a candle and then leave it unattended in a room or close to flammable objects.
How long has it been since you tested your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms? Now is a good time to go through your home and make sure each one is in good working order. Don’t forget to include those in the garage or other areas that are not used frequently. Remember that smoke detectors play a major role in alerting the household to a fire and helping to save their lives.
If you haven’t checked your home for potential fire hazards lately, why not do so now? You can never be too cautious when it comes to fire safety.
