The trees we are talking about are those situated a little too close to a house. Many homeowners worry that a tree situated too close to their house may be causing damage. So, let’s look at some of the ways a tree can might cause problems.

Perhaps one of the main concerns for a homeowner is the tree’s roots. If roots grow large enough, it is possible that they could start to grow under the foundations of the house and cause them to lift. You may also find that tree roots will make their way into the pre-existing cracks in the foundations.

Another big risk a tree poses for a building is falling branches and tree limbs. These could not only damage the roof, but if they fell on the surrounding power or communication lines, it would cause a lot of disruption. They could also fall and seriously injure someone. Falling leaves and smaller branches could also block gutters. If they are not unblocked quickly enough, the house could start to experience water intrusion.

A tree can cause a number of issues if it is close to your home, but a lot will depend on its age and condition. If you have a tree in close proximity to your home, keep it well-trimmed, and lookout for signs of decay. It is also a good idea to have your home inspected for any signs of structural damage that the tree may be causing.
