Animals will only come into the area when they can find easy access to the three things that all animals seek – food, shelter and water. If you want to keep them away, you should deny them those things.
Your garbage can turn out to be a treasure trove for many scavenging animals. Keeping your garbage well-closed will minimize the risk of them smelling food scraps or other things that are edible. If necessary, having a small shed to keep your garbage in can serve as a deterrent for most animals.
